Self-care 101: Doing what you love

Hey everyone! Hope everyone is having a fantastic week so far.

I’ve actually been in a surprisingly good mood this week. Not really for any reason in particular, which is why it’s unexpected for me at least.

I’ve chosen to sit outside while I write today, since we’re finally starting to get into my favorite season of the year: summer! I absolutely love the warm weather, and everyone just seems to be in a good mood in the summertime. It’s such a joyful season, so I can’t help but smile every year when the weather starts to warm up.

While I was outside today, playing some corn hole with my family and just enjoying myself, I couldn’t help but to take a second and notice how happy I was in that moment. All my stress and worries that typically consume my thoughts, they simply weren’t present.

I’d say most of us go through our day focusing on all the stressors in life: work, to-do lists, and other responsibilities. So many of us, myself included, forget that life is something that we’re supposed to enjoy. We get so caught up in trying to survive and accomplish things that we forget to take time and just live.

It’s such cliche, but most cliches hold some truth in them. It’s so important to remember that it’s okay, heck it’s important, to slow down in life and just enjoy yourself. Spend time with those you love, do the things that you enjoy. Even just take some time and sit outside. Take a break from the things that cause so much stress in our lives and enjoy this beautiful life that we’ve all been given.

I’m so thankful to have gotten the chance to spend time with family today. Taking the opportunity to slow down and just enjoy myself will hopefully energize me to finish out the week strong.

I implore everyone reading this to take some time to slow down, too. Spend some time outside, go see friends or family, treat yourself to your favorite food, whatever it is that brings you joy. Just go out and do something special for yourself. You’ve been working hard and you deserve it.

Thanks for reading friends πŸ™‚
