Worry not: Why we shouldn’t feel worry in our lives

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” -Matthew 6:25-34

I recently attended a Bible study during which I had the opportunity to hear Joseph Watson, who works with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) speak about faith. One aspect of his talk that stood out to me was worry in our lives. God has put it on my heart tonight to share a little bit of this talk with you, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do!

Worry is something we all have experienced. Whether that be because of finances, relationships, school, work, etc., it is simply a part of our lives.

What does God say about worry? Well, the Bible actually claims that this feeling of stress and uncertainty is a sin. While the Bible never explicitly states that it is a sin, it is definitely implied that worry is demonstrating that you don’t fully trust God.

It can be a hard concept to accept. We know that we should trust God, yet, we still have fear about what the future holds and what lies ahead. We are called to cast all our worry on God and to put our trust in Him. No matter what you may be going through, big or small, God is in control. He will care for you and carry you through whatever trials you may be going through.

It is very difficult to not worry; trust me, I understand! However, our Father will take care of his children and deliver us safely through the rough times we face in our lives.

I encourage you to go listen to “Cast My Cares” by Finding Favour and pray to God that He will take away all worry and stress and uncertainty, and that you may find the faith to trust Him with everything He has planned for you in your life.

  1. I love the topic of this blog! These are things people struggle with daily, and it is so great to have someone reminding us of the truth during a crazy season. I also love how you provide a poll for us readers to get a say in what you write on next!

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the post, as well as the poll! I want this blog to be for the readers, not for me. I want to write about topics that people want to read. Thank you for the feedback!

  2. I cannot express how valuable it is for people to be called to share something from someone who was also called to share their message with you. Worry is such a big thing people have issues with, and on the other hand, people confuse worrying with caring and don’t care (worry) enough! Thanks for this reminder

    1. Very true! Sometimes we worry without even thinking about it. It is important for us to take a step back and realize that God is in control, and that everything will go according to His will, and His will is good!
